Collage 2006

Silver prints, collage, pencil / 48"x20"

Posting some old non-digital work, more to come. I am hereby re-titling this piece "Life Gainstage Visual" in honor of Gabriel Sim-Laramee, whose name I have spelled correctly and who will undoubtedly comment upon this post.

It seems to take much more seriously the idea of a gainstage diagram unless you mean to obscure the link between the term and the picture. Gain in what? are the three pictures stages or do they show sub-diagrams? This does not exempt you or me from diagramming every amplifier circuit in our lives.

It's certainly stages, and I am not intentionally obscuring anything. It's just that in the way we initially talked about the gainstage, I think we conceived of it as a constantly-operative system with a set of inputs and predictably altered outputs. This is just a more temporal/metamorphic interpretation (a retrospective interpretation) of "gainstage".

I am also not exempting myself from the former case by presenting the latter.

Or a better way to put it:

In the former case, the gainstage is conceived of as a filter/translator. In the latter, it's conceived of as a procedure.

Inputs/outputs -> start/end
Structural metastasis -> temporal metamorphosis

How's THAT for overthinking it?
