No April fool
Science can explain these things, but it can't interpret them. You have to step outside of time (chronos) and into Time (kairos) to be present to something this powerful. Land and text both want to be read and understood. I felt afraid when I realized this, especially since the realization only came while unprotected, at the mercy of the environment.

These pictures don't fully hit me because I'm used to seeing fabricated, unreal environments, and my eye can't pick these out for actually being real.
They look like something out of The Two Towers.

[i'm kind of i'm glad i saw the pictures before nick's comment. these pictures are incredibly vivid to me. without a hint of fake until fake was suggested. of course, the real thing is always more powerful, but being a photograph doesn't make it total artifice, does it?]
